Anticipated PGA Tour Pro Released As First Apple Exclusive Game

On Thursday, the first PGA Apple Arcade game was released.  PGA Tour Pro Golf, developed by HypGames Inc., is the latest video game licensed by the PGA Tour for the enjoyment of fans at home and on the go.

PGA Apple Arcade Game Dropped: What To Expect

    Quick PGA Gaming History

This is of course far from the first PGA video game.  There have been games licensed out since 1990 during the fourth generation of consoles.  PGA games have been developed and published by EA Sports up to the present.  From 1999 to 2013 the games were published under Tiger Woods’ name.  After Tiger Woods’ name was removed from the title it was presented under Rory Mcllory, but only for one game in 2015 and has since just stuck with the PGA name.   This new mobile game is the first PGA game that hasn’t been developed or published by EA Sports but rather by HypGames whose only other title is Ultimate 8 Ball Pool.

What Is PGA Tour Pro Golf Like?

PGA Tour Golf has a similar setup to previous games by EA Sports.  The game draws heavy inspiration from real life with a focus on realism in terms of how the courses look, how the clubs work, and wind conditions.  Here the player can select a course based on real life, like Pebble Beach or Firestone.  Players can also choose from a variety of clubs, each with its own special stats based on its real-life counterparts.  There are also chances to upgrade equipment while playing to give players better chances on their swings.

The game also offers a simultaneous head-to-head mode.  This means that two players can play at once on the same course in a race to the end!  Another mode available is the daily multi-day tournaments designed to challenge all players and pit them against each other for a spot on the leaderboard.  The tournaments also offer some exclusives to be unlocked as an incentive.

Where Is PGA Tour Pro Golf Available?

Currently, PGA Tour Pro Golf is only available on Apple products as an exclusive.  This is mainly advertised on mobile for iPhone and iPad.  It is also available for Mac and Apple TV with an integrated controller setup.

    Early Game Reviews

Although the game just came out, early reviews are looking fair.  PGA Tour Live Host Jeff Eisenburg says that he’s already hooked on the game after just one hole.  He compared it to the more arcade feel that the sport has had elsewhere on mobile.  This one stands out with its aforementioned attention to realism, which has always given the PGA Tour series an edge, whereas others have more randomly generated courses.

This game is looking to bring the PGA experience to anyone’s pocket and is worth a look.  With its real-life inspirations and ease of access, it’s shaping up to be a fine game that could be an essential app for any golf fan.
