Twitter Reactions: Harris, Goud’s four-fers power UP Warriorz to victory over Delhi Capitals

UP Warriorz Women lit up Bengaluru on Saturday evening as they finally registered their first victory of the WPL 2025 season, defeating Delhi Capitals Women by 33 runs in Match 8. The game saw a brilliant turnaround as Chinelle Henry’s blistering knock and Kranti Goud’s clinical bowling handed UP a much-needed win.

After being asked to bat first, UP’s batting witnessed both ups and downs. The top order struggled to get going as Kiran Navgire (17), Deepti Sharma (13), and Tahlia McGrath (24) failed to convert their starts. Grace Harris and Uma Chetry fell cheaply, leaving the side in deep trouble at 109/7. However, Henry’s innings of 62 off just 23 balls, smashing eight sixes at a strike rate of 269.56, got the side back in the contest.

Her onslaught, which was assisted by Delhi’s poor fielding—including a crucial dropped catch when she was on 13, gave Warriorz the momentum they desperately needed. Sophie Ecclestone (12) and Saima Thakor (4*) chipped in towards the end, pushing the total to 177/9 in their allotted 20 overs. For Delhi, Jess Jonassen was the wrecker in chief with the ball with figures of 4/31, while Marizanne Kapp (2/18) and Arundhati Reddy (2/52) also chipped in with a few, respectively.

Chasing 178, Capitals had a disappointing start as skipper Meg Lanning (5) departed early. Shafali Verma (24) and Jemimah Rodrigues (56 off 35) tried to stabilize the innings, with Jemimah playing a fiery knock to keep the chase alive. However, once she fell at 111/6, Delhi’s middle and lower order collapsed under pressure.

Goud was the star with the ball, finishing with 4/25 in her four overs, including wickets of Lanning, Verma, Rodrigues, and Jonassen. Harris also chipped in with four wickets, wrapping up the Delhi tail as they were bowled out for 144 in 19.3 overs.

With this win, UP Warriorz has opened its account in WPL 2025 and will look to build on this momentum. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have now lost two matches and will need to go back to winning ways to stay in contention for the playoffs.

That win for UP Warriorz has to be the definitive that “catches win matches” is not necessarily always true in cricket. 😅 #WPL2025
