Chelsea are now preparing a £75m bid for an “incredible” Premier League star, and they may also look at using one of their own players as a makeweight in negotiations, according to a report.
Blues pursuing a defender
Ahead of the summer transfer window, one of the Blues’ main priorities appears to be bringing in some new defenders, having been linked with moves for a number of top centre-backs.
Barcelona’s Jules Kounde is one of the most high-profile centre-backs thought to be on the shortlist, with Enzo Maresca‘s side willing to push the boat out to get a deal done.
However, there are also some options from much closer to home, with it recently being revealed the west Londoners are the favourites to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, despite interest from European heavyweights Bayern Munich.
There has now been a new update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Guehi, with a report from Spain revealing they are now preparing a bid of around £75m for the summer.
The Palace defender is described as one of the Blues’ main targets, having caught the eye of Maresca, and they are now willing to make a huge bid to get a deal done, after making attempts to sign him during the winter.
Not only are Maresca’s side willing to make a £75m offer plus bonuses, but they are also considering whether to use a player as a makeweight in the negotiations in order to sweeten the deal.
The report does not state which player could be offered to the Eagles, but the willingness to send someone in the opposite direction is said to underline Chelsea’s desire to get a deal done as quickly as possible.

Trevoh Chalobah swap deal could make sense
Maresca was forced to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Selhurst Park last month, with the manage lacking options in defence due to the injury sustained by Wesley Fofana.
Chalobah was a key player for the Eagles prior to his loan being cut short, and Oliver Glasner described him as a “very good player”, so it could make sense to use the centre-back in negotiations for Guehi.
Lauded as “incredible” by members of the media, the England international has certainly earned a big move with his performances for Palace, once again playing a big part in his side picking up a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory against Fulham at the weekend.
The 24-year-old made three interceptions, three tackles and blocked one shot to keep the Cottagers at bay, while also showcasing his leadership by captaining the side.
That said, £75m seems a large fee for a player who will be out of contract next summer, so it would make sense for Chelsea to try and engineer a swap deal, and there is seemingly a good chance Palace would be keen on Chalobah, given the praise from Glasner.
