ICC Champions Trophy Finals: Complete list of Player of the Match winners

The coveted ICC Champions Trophy has seen some of the most exciting finals in the eight editions played so far, with individual brilliance often deciding the fate of the tournament. From Jacques Kallis’ all round heroics in 1998 to Fakhar Zaman’s brilliant century in 2017, the Player-of-the-Match (POTM) award in the final has always been a cherished moment for those who have performed on the biggest occasions.

In the inaugural edition in 1998, South Africa’s Jacques Kallis produced an impressive all-round performance, scoring 37 runs and picking up 5/30 to help his team defeat the West Indies. Two years later, in 2000, New Zealand’s Chris Cairns played a match-winning knock of 102* against India, guiding his team to their maiden ICC title. The 2002 final between India and Sri Lanka was washed out twice, leading to both teams being declared joint winners without a POTM award being given.

The 2004 edition saw West Indies’ Ian Bradshaw play a crucial role in their narrow two-wicket win over England, contributing with 34* (51) and 2/29. In 2006, Australia’s all-rounder Shane Watson‘s unbeaten 57 and two-wicket haul guided his side to their first Champions Trophy victory, and he repeated his heroics in 2009 with a match-winning 105* against the Kiwis.

In 2013, Ravindra Jadeja‘s all-round brilliance helped the Men in Blue go past England in a rain-affected 20-over final, while in 2017, Fakhar Zaman’s powerful 114 against arch-rivals India, led the Green Shirts to their first Champions Trophy title with an emphatic 180-run win.

Who will be the Player of the Match in Champions Trophy 2025 edition?

With India and New Zealand preparing for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai on March 9, a new player will be added to this exclusive list. The Rohit Sharma-led side has been in brilliant ODI form, having been the only unbeaten team in this competition. New Zealand, on the other hand, entered the tournament as Tri-Nation Series winners and have won three out of the games played.

Interestingly, according to Crictracker’s predictions, the Kiwis could lift their second Champions Trophy, making it their first ICC white-ball title in 25 years. If that happens, Rachin Ravindra, with his batting, could be in line to win the POTM award.
