In the next National T20 Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has drastically reduced match fees by 75%. The cricketers will be paid about 10,000 PKR. US$ 35) compared to the PKR 40,000 in the previous competition. Every player was paid PKR 60,000 in 2022, much more than they will earn in 2025.
On the other hand, the reserve crickets will be paid nearly PKR 5000. US$ 17.50) each game. The cause of the player”s paycheck plummet remains to be disclosed. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi assured that after he took charge of PCB, the income would be spent on player well-being or the advancement of Pakistan cricket rather than “locked away.”
Since then, including refurbishing several of their stadiums in time for the Champions Trophy, the cricket board has spent extravagantly. Although both foreign coaches, including Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten, were given a long contract, they were each let go only a few months after they were hired.
Five famous cricketers were hired as mentors during one of their domestic contests, each being paid PKR 5 million every month. PCB also renamed the white-ball setup for domestic cricket, a cost they spent some worthwhile funds on.
The board is probably having financial difficulties following the Champions Trophy, which might be among of the causes behind such extreme measures. One of the PCB officials, nevertheless talking to ESPNcricinfo, observed that the other domestic competitions help the players to earn decently and this is why their pay in the National T20 Cup is reduced 75%.
The competition will start notably on March 14 and span three sites—Faisalabad, Lahore, and Multan—a total of 39 games. March 27 is the date for the final match.
