Khushdil Shah faces sanctions for breaching ICC conduct rules during the T20 match against New Zealand, which ended in a loss for Pakistan.
In a significant incident during the first Twenty20 match against New Zealand on Sunday, Pakistan’s all-rounder Khushdil Shah faced disciplinary action resulting in a financial penalty and demerit points. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Khushdil has been fined 50 percent of his match fee and has received three demerit points for violating the ICC code of conduct.
The incident occurred in the eighth over of the game when Khushdil attempted to take a single and inadvertently collided with New Zealand bowler Zac Foulkes, who was facing away from him at that moment. The impact was primarily due to Khushdil’s left shoulder making contact with Foulkes.
Given that Khushdil accepted the penalties imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe, a formal hearing was deemed unnecessary. Notably, this breach marks Khushdil’s first offence in the last two years, underscoring his otherwise disciplined conduct on the field.
On a more positive note, Khushdil managed to stand out as Pakistan’s top scorer in the match with a total of 32 runs. However, the result did not favor Pakistan, as New Zealand secured victory by nine wickets, showcasing a dominant performance in the opening game of the series.
Looking ahead, the second match of this five-match series is scheduled to take place in Dunedin on Tuesday. The focus will be on both teams as they strategize and regroup after the initial encounter, with Pakistan aiming to bounce back from their defeat and New Zealand seeking to maintain their momentum.
