MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar have a strong bond that goes back a while. Right now, they play for different teams in the IPL, but Chahar is really thankful to Dhoni for helping him become a well-known bowler. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, Chahar built his reputation with the Chennai Super Kings and worked his way up to play for India.
During the IPL 2025 Match No. 3 on Sunday, they had some fun banter while CSK faced off against the Mumbai Indians. When Dhoni walked onto the field, Chahar playfully pretended he would be fielding at short silly point and cheered for him as he got ready to bat.
After CSK won by 4 wickets, there was a funny moment during the post-match handshakes when Dhoni acted like he might swing his bat at Chahar. Dhoni only faced two balls before the team clinched the win, and surprisingly, he didn’t score. But as a keeper, he impressed everyone again with a stunning stumping.
This match marked the 13th straight season opener the Mumbai Indians lost in the IPL, with their last win in an opening match back in 2012. Even with Suryakumar Yadav stepping in for Hardik Pandya, things didn’t change for the team. CSK has also been on a roll against MI lately, winning six out of their last seven meetings since the second half of IPL 2021.
