Watch: Shohei Ohtani hits second HR of season in huge spot for Dodgers

It’s Opening Day in Los Angeles and Shohei Ohtani has already hit a home run on two continents.

He hit a solo home run in his return to the Tokyo Dome on March 19 in a Tokyo Series win over the Chicago Cubs. That shot went to right center for his first home run of the 2025 season. Again, that happened on the continent of Asia.

Now back in North America on the other Opening Day for the Dodgers, Ohtani has already hit his second homer of the year.

It came in a big spot for Los Angeles, too. In the top of the seventh, Spencer Torkelson hit a home run 423 feet to left field to bring the Tigers within one run (4-3) and give them some major momentum heading into the final frames.

In the bottom of the seventh, Detroit reliever Brenan Hanifee got the first two outs of the inning and the Tigers seemed to be within grasp of firmly grabbing that momentum.

Up stepped Ohtani to the plate, though, and what came next was a beautiful swing on a 95 mph sinker to send the ball into left field to give the Dodgers a bit more wiggle room.

That insurance run was needed because the Tigers got a run of their own back in the top of the eighth.

Blake Treinen got the save for the Dodgers in the top of the ninth despite two getting on for the Tigers with just one out, and the end result was 5-4 win for Los Angeles.

Ohtani’s home run was the difference maker, and the Dodgers are now 3-0.
