Oh, absolutely. One night ride changed the way I think about bike safety forever.
A few months ago, I decided to do a quick loop after work. It was just past sunset, but I thought, “No big deal, the street lights will cover me.” I had a tiny clip-on light I got for cheap online—looked cute, but didn’t really do anything.
About 20 minutes in, I hit a stretch of unlit road. A car came up behind me fast. I thought they’d see me. They didn’t. They swerved last minute, horn blaring, and I ended up in a ditch—not seriously hurt, but seriously shaken.
