Aston Villa working on deal to sign Arsenal & Man City target

Aston Villa are trying to agree a summer deal for Arsenal and Manchester City target Sverre Nypan, a report has revealed.

The Norwegian teenager’s name was frequently brought up during the January transfer window, but his father revealed at the end of the month that his client would stay at Rosenborg until the summer to assess his options.

“The most important thing for us is to get confirmation that there is enormous interest from big and great clubs,” Nypan Sr said. “They have a good plan for how they want to develop him. Given that, Sverre has always thought long-term. We now consider that he is at RBK until the summer an advantage.”

Nypan, who has been likened to Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s captain, and made his debut for Rosenborg in the Norwegian top-flight aged just 15, could still end up heading to the Premier League, but The Athletic report that Champions League quarter-finalists Aston Villa are attempting to get a deal done ahead of Arsenal and City.

The Villans hope to persuade Nypan that his ambitions can be fulfilled in the Midlands, particularly as they are once again in the mix to qualify for European football’s premier club competition, and chiefs are said to be ‘optimistic’ of concluding a transfer.

A fee of around £10m was previously mooted for Nypan, who can play in a variety of midfield positions and has been capped at every available youth level for Norway between Under-15s and Under-21s.

It’s not made clear whether Arsenal or City will look to revive their interest in Nypan, though they may not be able to offer the same immediate pathway to first team football that Villa and manager Unai Emery can.
