    Angel City’s Anchor: Angelina Anderson

California native Angelina Anderson has represented Angel City since 2023. From her remarkable tenure as a Golden Bear at Berkeley to her impressive role on the ACFC squad, we’ll take a look at Anderson’s soccer journey thus far.

Carondelet High School & Mustang ECNL

Before attending Berkeley, Anderson played club ball for the Mustangs and high school soccer for Carondelet High School. Anderson’s efforts helped the Mustangs reach the Final Four multiple times. Anderson also helped Carondelet High School secure the EBAL Championship back-to-back times. Overall, she ended up as a top-ranked goalie for the Class of 2019.

    Golden Bears (2019 – 2022)

Anderson recorded a total of 72 games played with the Golden Bears. In those 72 games, she saved 252 goals and concluded with 36 wins.

2019 was Anderson’s most accomplished year at Berkeley. She secured the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year, Pac-12 Rookie of the Year, and First Team All-Pac-12.

Anderson’s confidence and focused approach is best highlighted by her experience as team captain. She was honored team captain in her final two years with the Bears.

Despite the season being shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Anderson showed up to the fullest for the Bears. During her sophomore year she played in all 13 games and led the team in minutes.

Her impact did not dwindle for the Bears in her final season. Anderson ranked in Cal’s all-time top-five with more than 200 saves to her name. In that same year, she was listed on the Third Team All-Pac-12.

Angel City FC (2023 – Present)

With the 27th pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, Angel City selected Anderson.

She has started in all matches for Angel City this season. Although taking a tough punch to the gut this past Friday in a 4-0 defeat against Gotham FC, Angel City has shown signs of growth and has a promising roster.

Anderson gives Angel City stability in one of the most crucial positions in the game. The growth Anderson has already experienced being a part of the ACFC organization is only going to propel her rank in the league and enhance Angel City’s chances of grasping the NWSL title.

She recently agreed to a three-year contract extension with ACFC and is rightfully deserving of such an extension. Anderson is both a prominent present-day player and the future of Angel City FC, similar to the Thompson sisters.

Anderson has also caught the attention of the senior national team as she was added to the USWNT January camp. Even though she only has international experience on the youth level, this call-up proves that Anderson’s skill is elite and deserving to be put at the highest level of competition.

Anderson still waits to tally her first cap for the USWNT, but as she waits, she’s showing many why she has a promising future with stellar performances for Angel City.
