High of the Week
This week Bay FC announced that they will play their August 23rd match against the Washington Spirit at Oracle Park. Oracle Park is home to the MLB’s San Francisco Giants and Bay FC will be looking to break the NWSL attendance record with this match. The stadium has a capacity of 42,300. Last season the Chicago Stars played a game at Wrigley Field where they set the attendance record with 35,038 fans in attendance. Bay FC was the Stars’ opponent in that match. It’s an exciting announcement for Bay and a game we’ll be excited to see.

News of the Week
It was revealed this week that the NWSL submitted a bid to launch a new second division. The league would serve as a talent pipeline and development league. According to CBS Sports, eight NWSL clubs have already committed to having teams when the league launches potentially in 2026: Bay FC, Kansas City Current, North Carolina Courage, NJ/NY Gotham FC, Orlando Pride, Racing Louisville, Seattle Reign, and the Washington Spirit. It was also reported that every NWSL club would need to have a second-tier team within the first four years of the league’s start. Before the league can become official they will need to gain approval from U.S. Soccer.
Just a week ago the WSL Pro announced that they would be launching as a second tier in 2026 as well. So far there has never been a second-tier women’s professional league but in 2026 we might have two which would be huge for the game.
The #NWSL plans to launch a 2nd division, which would begin play in 2026 + could in the future feature non-NWSL teams. It addresses a pipeline issue, which I spoke to Jessica Berman about recently. US pro WoSo teams could go from 12 in 2023 to 50 in 2026.https://t.co/BMe8S9lfFf

Win of the Week
Lauren and Jrue Holiday are the newest additions to the North Carolina Courage’s ownership group. Jrue is currently playing in the NBA with the Boston Celtics. Lauren was an incredible midfielder for the USWNT during her playing career. She helped the USWNT win two gold medals at the Summer Olympics in 2008 and 2012 and she was a crucial part of the 2015 World Cup winning squad. She played three seasons in the NWSL with FC Kansas City where she won MVP in 2013 and led Kansas City to two Championships in 2014 and 2015. Holiday retired from professional soccer in 2016 but she’s still giving back to the game and adding the Holidays to the ownership group is a huge win for the Courage.
The Place To Be Legendary.
We’re proud to welcome U.S. Women’s Soccer legend Lauren Holiday and two-time NBA Champion Jrue Holiday to the NC Courage ownership group!

Team of the Week
Arsenal secured their spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final with an impressive 4-1 (3-5 on aggregate) win over Olympique Lyon. Arsenal forced an own goal early on in just the fifth minute to get the scoring started. Just before halftime, Mariona Caldentey found the back of the net to double the Gunners lead. At the start of the second half Alessia Russo scored the third goal then Caitlin Foord got in on the scoring party as well. It’s the first time that Arsenal has made the Champions League Final since 2007. Arsenal will face off against the defending champions FC Barcelona on May 24 for the trophy.

Save of the Week
Anna Moorhouse made an insane save against Angel City. The goalkeeper rose to smack away a header from the top corner of the goal. It was a wonderfully placed header but Moorhouse made an even better save to keep it out of the net.
Anna Moorhouse, HOW?! 😱

Upset of the Week
The North Carolina Courage got their first win of the season and they did it by defeating the league-leading and previously undefeated Kansas City Current. North Carolina has had a rocky start to the season with an 0-2-3 record but they found their footing on Saturday with an impressive performance against the Current. They came back from behind twice, Ryan Williams got her first professional goal to get the scoring started. Then Kaleigh Kurtz and Ashley Sanchez found the back of the net just four minutes apart at the end of the match to secure the three points.

Return of the Week
On March 28th against Bay FC, Racing Louisville’s Savannah DeMelo experienced lightheadedness that led to her being stretchered off the field and evaluated at a nearby hospital. This weekend DeMelo made her return to the field and she scored her first goal of the season against the Portland Thorns. That game ended in a 3-3 draw.
