Will Micah Parsons saga impact Cowboys’ ability to keep George Pickens?

Recent reports have revealed that the Dallas Cowboys plan to hold onto wide receiver George Pickens, who has become a revelation for the club while playing in the final year of his contract.

Pickens is represented by David Mulugheta, the agent that Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones seemingly wanted nothing to do with this past summer before Dallas traded star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in late August.

Some understandably have wondered if the Parsons saga could impact Dallas’ ability to keep Pickens happy beyond the ongoing season. On Wednesday, multiple updates poured cold water over such concerns.

Cowboys, agent have put Micah Parsons saga behind them

“The team doesn’t expect any lingering effects from the Parsons negotiations and the subsequent trade to the Packers,” NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said. “Both sides have seemingly moved on.”

In that same piece, ESPN’s Dan Graziano added that he doesn’t “think the Parsons situation will have any effect on Pickens negotiations.”

A report from earlier in November shared that “there’s a strong likelihood that the” Cowboys will use the franchise tag to retain Pickens’ rights before the new league year opens in March 2026. Fowler noted that doing so would “give Dallas the flexibility to negotiate with Pickens through the offseason or potentially execute a sign-and-trade.”

The Cowboys handed WR1 CeeDee Lamb a four-year, $136M deal in August 2024. That said, ESPN stats show that Pickens ranks second in the NFL with 1,054 receiving yards, third with eight touchdown catches and eighth with 67 total receptions for the 2025 season. Such production has insiders such as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggesting that Dallas could make Lamb available to would-be buyers during the upcoming offseason so that the Cowboys can lock Pickens down via a long-term contract.

Cowboys don’t have to worry about agent drama with George Pickens?

Fowler added that his “sense” is that “Pickens’ camp would strongly prefer a long-term contract” if the 24-year-old is tagged early next year. It appears Mulugheta would welcome hearing from Jones regarding Pickens’ future.

“From what I’m told, there’s no drama brewing here,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic said on Wednesday about potential Mulugheta-Jones talks. “Everyone is expected to handle it professionally.”

Pickens will have an opportunity to shine in front of a massive audience when the 5-5-1 Cowboys host the Kansas City Chiefs (6-5) on Thanksgiving Day. As of Wednesday morning, ESPN BET had Dallas as a 3.5-point underdog for that matchup.
