Despite having Alejandro Balde and Alvaro Carreras, Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on signing 22-year-old German left-back: Reports

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt youngster Nathaniel Brown after his impressive displays this season, as per reports. The German left-back has caught the eye following a series of standout performances for the Bundesliga side, which have launched him into prominence.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has named Barcelona and Real Madrid as two of the sides keenly monitoring Brown this season. In a report from Barca Universal, it was revealed that both sides have registered concrete interest in the 22-year-old Germany international despite being stocked at left-back.

Nathaniel Brown has enjoyed a fine season in Germany so far, scoring one goal and providing three assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season. His performances have earned him a place in the plans of Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, and he made his senior international debut earlier this year.

Barcelona will have a chance to watch Brown first-hand when his Frankfurt side visit the Spotify Camp Nou in the UEFA Champions League next week. The Spanish giants have Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin as their senior options, but they have not been a team to turn down opportunities at improvement.

Real Madrid have three senior left-backs on their books following the summer addition of Alvaro Carreras to join Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia. Los Blancos are, however, still keeping tabs on Brown, as they could move on a player or two in his position in the coming months. Manchester United are also eyeing the young left-back, who could cost up to €70 million.

Barcelona profit from Real Madrid stumble to reach LaLiga summit

Barcelona ended matchday 14 of the 2025-26 LaLiga season atop the standings after Real Madrid dropped points at Girona. The reigning champions edged Alaves 3-1 at the Nou Camp on Saturday, in their own case.

Xabi Alonso‘s side dropped points in a third straight league game after their 1-1 draw with Girona on Sunday evening. The result means they have failed to win against Rayo Vallecano, Elche, and Girona either side of the international break in November despite Kylian Mbappe being in fine form this season.

Barcelona’s win over Alaves momentarily put them at the summit of the league standings by two points, and they saw their lead cut to one point 24 hours later. They have racked up 34 points from 14 games this season, one more than Real Madrid and two more than Atletico Madrid in third position.
