India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma pulled off a stunning runout during the second T20I against the South Africa National Cricket Team on Thursday, December 11.
Jitesh Sharma was able to deny a century to the South Africa National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock with an excellent run-out.
Quinton de Kock falls short of a century
The Proteas opening batsman Quinton de Kock looked in sensational touch with the bat in the second T20I against India.
Your daily dose of cricket!
De Kock loves playing against India in international cricket, and he registered his best T20I score at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh, since his return to the format.
Since his comeback, De Kock had registered the scores of 1, 23, 7, 0, and 0 heading into the second game against the Men In Blue.
He finally ended the drought of runs and played a stunning knock. The left-handed batter attacked the bowlers from the very first over and continued his attack throughout his stay in the middle.
He looked set for a ton, but Jitesh Sharma denied him the milestone with a brilliant effort. On the first ball of the 16th over, Varun Chakravarthy bowled a flatter delivery to Quinton de Kock outside off-stump.
De Kock got the under edge towards the keeper, and he stepped out of the crease for a moment. However, Jitesh Sharma was exceptionally quick, and he grabbed the ball before quickly dislodging the bails.
Jitesh Sharma was able to catch Quinton de Kock short of the crease, and the Indian team erupted in celebration as “OUT” was displayed on the big screen. De Kock walked back to the hut after scoring 90 runs off 46.

South Africa beat India in the 2nd T20I
The Proteas won the match by 51 runs to level the series 1-1. Speaking after the match, the South Africa skipper Aiden Markram lauded Quinton de Kock for his special knock. Aiden Markram added that the bowlers and fielders also did a great job. He said:
“Yeah, much better tonight. Obviously we started off with a special knock from Quinny (de Kock) and some really good contributions at the end that got us to a really good total. I thought the bowlers were good in the first game and even better this evening, so they’re definitely trending in the right direction, which is great to see. And naturally, from a fielding point of view, the first two games have gone wonderfully. It (the conditions) was good.
“There was something there for the bowlers when the ball was in the right area, especially when it was new and hard. And if a batter got in, as we saw with Quinny and Tilak, they could put the bowlers under pressure. So a good wicket, nice-sized field, quite fair as well. Great stadium, great support here for India, and a nice game to be part of. Yeah, it’s (selection) never easy. As a player, you want three or four games on the run to build momentum.
“But it also has to do with how busy our summer looks now, building up towards the World Cup with SA20 and the series. Making sure we have our best available XI for the World Cup is obviously the number one priority. Some guys are resting, some are rotating to give fair opportunities. Hopefully by the time SA20 is done, everyone has had good game time and we’re ready for the World Cup.”
