5x NBA All-Star Jabs at Trae Young Implying Hawks Star’s Work Ethics Fuels Trade Chaos in Atlanta

The Atlanta Hawks are ready to move on from Trae Young after eight seasons. As the NBA trade deadline nears, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday that Young’s agents, Aaron Mintz, Drew Morrison and Austin Brown, are working with the Hawks on a trade.

Dan Patrick had former NBA star Reggie Miller on his show on Tuesday. During the latest episode of the “Dan Patrick Show,” the host asked the five-time All-Star why Atlanta is willing to move on from Young. The top guard is in his prime, Patrick noted, and teams typically do not trade players who are at their best.

Miller implied that Young’s lackluster work ethic is the reason why the Hawks are ready to move on from him.

“Here’s the problem,” Miller said. “Sometimes, it’s getting the success too early. I think his decline really started after the Hawks went to the conference finals and lost to Milwaukee Bucks… I think things came too easy for him.

The former Indiana Pacers star revealed that he has heard various things about how Young does not have the best work ethic.

“I hear things. And when you hear things that players don’t like playing with him, he doesn’t practice hard, he doesn’t come early and work out,” he added. “He certainly doesn’t stay late and work on his game.”

Miller said that he hopes what he’s heard about Young is not true. The Hall of Fame player pointed out that the Hawks star needs to work on his game and his physical conditioning to add more value to himself.

Since 2018, Trae Young has been the franchise’s cornerstone. He’s averaged 25.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists. The NBA star led the team to three playoff appearances. The first time, Atlanta made it all the way to the conference finals.

Since then, however, the team has only had a first-round exit. Over the past two seasons, the Hawks have underperformed and missed the playoffs.

Marc Spears revealed what Trae Young’s thoughts are regarding a trade

Trae Young’s future with the Hawks is up in the air after Charania confirmed that there have been talks about a potential trade. Amid all this, ESPN’s Marc J. Spears revealed what Young is thinking about a deal and his future in Atlanta.

“I don’t think he’s asking for a trade, but I don’t think he’s telling [the Hawks] not to trade him,” Spears said. “I’m hearing he’s open-minded to being moved. I do think he’d certainly be open-minded to a new uniform.”

Another sign that the Hawks were ready to move on from Trae Young was their decision not to offer him a contract extension. Young has two years left on his five-year, $215 million contract. That includes the $48.98 million player option he can exercise for the 2026-27 season.
