Based in St. Louis, Missouri, the Saint Louis Scott Gallagher youth soccer club stands as a prominent piece in the ongoing growth of girls soccer. From its rich history to its current success in guiding the next generation of soccer players, SLSG is an organization worthy of acknowledgment.
Who They Are
While much of the history circulates around the accomplishments in the boys’ and young men’s teams, the exposure and expansion of the girls’ game continues to rise with the resources and values set by SLSG. Being a founding member of the ECNL Girls affirms the sophisticated and passionate stance SLSG has towards girls soccer. The program offers teams in the ECNL, ECNL Regional League, Elite 64 Program, and Youth Academy for girls.
Youth Academy guides introductory players to learn fundamentals and necessary skills for the game. The SLSG teams in the ECNL and ECNL Regional League offer a competitive environment for players in age groups U13-U19 to enhance their understanding of the game and strengthen their skillsets. For players in those age groups, they also have the opportunity to receive college exposure.
About Their Programs
SLSG’s Elite 64 Program is a separate part of the program that encourages the most ambitious players to take their talents to the next level. All portions of SLSG are founded on four core values that are listed as follows:
- Role Model Program
- Leaders in Action Speaker Series
- SLSG Juniors Give Back
- Coaching Education & Development
Such values not only demonstrate an unwavering passion for guiding the next generation in a positive direction, but also gives way to girls having access to an incredible preparation system. Caring for their players beyond the game and aiming to provide all players with opportunities to grow as a person is what makes SLSG a prominent member in the world of girls’ soccer.
With a well-structured and determined program comes elite players and outstanding achievements. As the program where over 60 professional players and 30 women’s national team players grew up developing soccer skills and comprehension, there is sure to be successful outcomes on the field. Such talents helped SLSG secure 28 national championships.
Notable Alumni
A notable player with SLSG roots is Kansas City Current’s very own Alex Pfeiffer. In 2024, Pfeiffer scored for KC and became the youngest player to score a goal at 16 years, 3 months, and 20 days old. Although the latter half of the 2024 season was cut short for Pfeiffer due to injury, she made her return to the pitch earlier this year. Despite making only 4 appearances this year for the Current, Pfeiffer has been a constant in the US Youth National Team system and even received her first call-up in October.
Earlier this month, Pfeiffer returned to her stomping grounds and held her own camp for the second time. SLSG is proud to be represented by Pfeiffer, as shown in their post. Pfeiffer exemplifies just the character and player SLSG aims to develop.
Many players from the SLSG club have gone to play at the next level, in college and beyond, Pfeiffer being the most recent, notable player. If you were to say another player like Pfeiffer is going to come out of SLSG, I would say that player likely already exists and is emerging from SLSG as we speak. There is a lot to look forward to in the women’s game, and a lot to thank SLSG for as the club develops top players and admirable people through community, respect, and passion.
