Over the years we’ve had some serious stars turn up in the English domestic scene, and 2024’s not going to be any different. For the last two months of the campaign, he’s very much scheduled to feature for his new side in both the Metro Bank One Day Cup and the Rothesay County Championship
Mohammad Ali’s got a very impressive CV to his name, both in domestic and even international cricket. Playing 59 first class matches and getting 222 wickets is a pretty significant achievement – that works out to an average of 3.22 runs per over. And that’s on top of the 40 List A matches he played and collected 48 wickets in.
His international debut came in 2022 when he played his first test match for Pakistan, and he picked up 6 wickets in the 4 games he played in. The year after he made his ODI debut for Pakistan, taking a single wicket against New Zealand in what’s been his only game to date
Ali looking forward to making waves in the English game
Just before he kicks off this new chapter in his career he’s buzzing with excitement at the prospect of what’s to come. Playing in English conditions is a big deal for him and he’s really looking forward to the chance to better himself out there. The big day before that is all about making a real impact for his new side.
‘To be honest, I’ve have always thought it would be a dream come true to play county cricket and get some experience of the English conditions, so I was over the moon when I got the chance. Trent Bridge is one of the most famous grounds in the world, so I’m really looking forward to getting a taste of what that’s like. Playing both red-ball and white-ball cricket is something I’m really excited about, and I’m looking forward to helping my new team out at a really important time in the season’ he chatted with a grin.
Paul Franks beaming with joy to have Mohammad Ali on board
Nottinghamshire’s assistant head coach Paul Franks is a big fan of having Mohammad Ali on his side, they actually go way back. The duo used to work together back in Pakistan, at Central Punjab, during the 2022-23 season. As they team up again, Franks opened up on their friendship.
‘You know it was Mohammad’s character and the bloke he is that really caught my eye when I was coaching him in Pakistan. That’s what’s stuck with me ever since, and I’ve kept a really good relationship with him, even from afar’ he said.
‘I think it’s testament to his personality, that’s for sure. We kept in touch over all this time and I am over the moon to have him on board with us now’
“We talk constantly, and we considered other ways to get him into the team before, but this one seemed to be at a very good time for both him and us. He is a great joy to teach,” he continued.
Mohammad Ali has been a well-known player in the domestic circuit of Pakistan. He might not have played many international matches, but he always shone through. Now that he is going to join the Nottinghamshire team, the audience is looking forward to his explosive performances.
