Newcastle plotting move to sign “fantastic” Premier League starlet after sending scouts

Newcastle United are now reportedly plotting a move to sign an in-form Premier League gem and have already sent their scouts to watch him in action.

It’s not a major surprise that Newcastle are in the market for an attacking option. As successful as Nico Woltemade has been since arriving, the same can’t be said for Anthony Elanga.

Despite becoming one of the club’s most expensive ever players when he arrived for around £55m in the summer, Elanga is yet to score a single goal for the club. It has been a miserable run for the Swede, who has lost his place back to Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes in recent weeks.

It’s still early days for Newcastle’s new-look frontline, but Elanga’s record suggests that they may already need an upgrade alongside Woltemade and that could come courtesy of the January transfer window.

Speaking about Newcastle’s potential business this month, Eddie Howe told reporters: “Marquee signing, I don’t know quite what that means. I suppose you’re talking big financial outlay. I don’t think that’s the desire this month. For various reasons. I don’t think it’s a great month to make that sort of signing.

“Any signing in this month will restrict our business to do business in the summer, so we have to be really careful to make the right decisions for the here and now and the future.

“We’re still in a position where PSR will influence every decision we make. We have to be really smart. I don’t think that’s necessarily the wish [to make marquee signings] but our injury situation will impact what we will and won’t do.”

Whether Mateus Mane falls under the category of a “smart” signing is now the big question. According to Football Insider, Newcastle are plotting a move to sign Mane and have already sent their scouts to watch the Wolverhampton Wanderers star in action.

    “Fantastic” Mane could replace Elanga

It’s early days for versatile Mane, but he’s certainly showing positive signs that he could become one to watch in the Premier League. Capable of playing on the right-hand side, up front and in the attacking midfield role, the 18-year-old could quickly become the perfect Elanga replacement in the summer.

If Wolves suffer relegation, Newcastle could also land a bargain price, unlike the steep fee they had to shell out to sign Elanga last summer.

With two goals in his last two games, Wolves boss Rob Edwards has been full of praise for Mane as of late, telling reporters: “He finished his performance with a fantastic goal.

This PL star could add great quality to Newcastle’s side

“He once again delivered a very bold display, playing with real commitment. He’s 18, but he’s almost like a little leader on the pitch. I think that’s contagious. I believe he influences others – with his energy, his enthusiasm.”
