Wyvern is one of the three primal transformations added in Path of Exile 2’s Last of the Druids update. It allows you to turn into a dragon and grants access to a variety of exclusive skills starting in Act 1. Not only do the abilities look good visually, but they also provide a smooth leveling experience overall with great single-target damage and crowd control.
While it’s accessible to all characters in the game, the Druid can build around the transformation skills a lot more easily. This guide will take you through an easy-to-play Druid Wyvern league starter build for leveling in Path of Exile 2.
Path of Exile 2 Druid Wyvern leveling build setup

The build is based around a Druid using a Talisman set to Wyvern transformation. You’ll start with a staff and some caster spells, but that’s only until you get your hands on a level 2 Uncut Skill Gem and a Talisman. The starter Wyvern skills in Path of Exile 2 include Rolling Magma, Wing Blast, and Devour.
Here’s the initial skill setup for Druid Wyvern
- Rolling Magma: Rapid Attacks – Multishot – Elemental Armament
- Wing Blast: Rapid Attacks – Charge Profusion – Magnified Area
- Rend: Rapid Attacks – Stun – Magnified Area
- Devour: Charge Profusion – Rapid Attacks
- Herald of Ash: Magnified Area
During the early levels, use Rolling Magma to take down enemies from a distance. Wth Multishot, it’ll shoot three projectiles that cover more area. If the enemies get too close, use Wing Blast to make distance or Rend to perform an AoE swing.

After unlocking Devour, you’ll be able to Cull enemies on low life by gobbling them up. The process grants you Power Charge, which can empower other skills, such as Rend, by infusing them with lightning. The skill also grants Life Regeneration. Herald of Ash is there for better AoE damage. Leveling up further will allow you to use the following skills:
- Oil Barrage: Rapid Attacks – Prolonged Duration – Potent Exposure
- Flame Breath: Magnified Area – Rageforged – Elemental Armament – Mobility – Burgeon
Oil Barrage unlocks at level 31 using a level 9 Uncut Skill Gem. It fires a volley of oil at enemies that deals damage and creates an AoE that slows them down. You can use skills like Flame Breath or Rolling Magma to ignite the oil and deal more damage using Wing Blast. Alternatively, consuming a Power Charge massively increases the damage, which works great for single-target DPS. However, it won’t leave behind an oil ground.
As for Flame Breath, it’s the ultimate skill in the arsenal. Activating it will allow you to take flight and rain down fire upon enemies. However, the skill consumes a large amount of Mana and Rage. Additionally, you have a highly reduced movement speed and aren’t immune to damage, so make sure to use it carefully.

Since leveling builds aren’t meant to do the extreme endgame content in Path of Exile 2, you don’t need to spend too much on gear. However, do focus on getting armor with ES as an extra layer of defense. The Brass Dome is a great chest piece for armor scaling, but you will lose out on additional resistances, life, and spirit. Crown of Eyes is also a good option if you want to scale DPS with spell damage.
For the weapon, you’ll need Talismans with at least a +3 level to all attack skills, paired with some attack speed, and physical/fire damage. Here’s a quick overview of the affixes you’ll want. Note that the affixes remain the same, but as you level up, try to get them at higher tiers.
Early gameplay with the Wyvern can feel squishy, so focus on getting armor and life, while capping resistance by any means. A Talisman with a chance to gain Onslaught affix is ambitious, but it can skyrocket the DPS as reach Path of Exile 2’s endgame.
Note: Mana recovery isn’t necessary, but if you’re building around Furious Welspring, it will help generate age faster.
Best skill tree setup for Druid Wyvern build in Path of Exile 2

The Druid has many options for scaling. Apart from physical damage, he has access to multiple passive nodes to increase damage and defense using shapeshift nodes. The green nodes are for Weapon Set 2, which will use Flame Breath, while the red nodes are for Weapon Set 1 with the rest of the skills. You can use the same weapon in both sets by locking the weapon sawp.
For the Ascendancy, pick up Reactive Growth and Turning Season. The combination provides both offense and defense. The next two can be Druidic Champion, followed by Furious Welspring to generate Rage. It’s also the reason why Flame Breath uses Rageforged.
