Back in 2024, Canyon issued a voluntary recall of some of its eBike batteries. The batteries in question were plastic-housed. These batteries had the risk of catching fire, as the plastic housings could allow water ingress. Yesterday, Canyon released two new eMTBs that come spec’d with new, updated batteries. The Spectral:ON, and the Torque:ON eMTBs are using a “long-lasting” 800Wh battery that is reinforced with an aluminum housing.

Let’s take a quick look at the Spectral:ON and Torque:ON eMTBs.
The Spectral:ON is aimed at trail riders who want to tackle both climbs and descents. It offers 155mm rear suspension and a 160mm fork with a mullet wheel setup for handling versatility.

The Torque:ON caters to riders focused on downhill performance and grabbing big air. It comes equipped with 175mm rear travel and a 180mm fork.

New Battery
This new battery represents a shift to complete aluminum construction for both the housing body and end caps. They are also designed to handle rougher riding conditions. Range performance now reaches up to 85km or 1900m of climbing per charge, depending on terrain and riding style.

The new battery features an IP57 rating for dust and water protection, achieved through double-sealed interface points and internal moisture barriers.

The 800Wh capacity utilizes updated 5.6Ah cells, replacing the previous 5.0Ah technology, which enables fewer total cells and improved weight distribution. Smart charging capabilities enable an 80% charge in 2 hours and full charging in 5 hours, while the aluminum battery weighs 150g less than its 900Wh predecessor.
Both bikes use Shimano’s EP801 motor system that delivers 85Nm of torque and up to 600 watts of power.

The Spectral:ON and Torque:ON will be available through Canyon’s website and app starting January 13, 2026. Pricing ranges from €3,999 for entry-level models to €5,999 for the top-spec Spectral:ON CFR.
Canyon offers recalled battery collection through authorized service partners worldwide, plus support through their customer service team and physical locations in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA.
