“Ole Miss down bad,” “Get ready to fill water bottles”: CFB fans troll Walker Howard as ex-Louisiana QB signs with Rebels

In perhaps the most unexpected twist of the transfer portal this January, Walker Howard has completed his return to Ole Miss. The quarterback spent two seasons, from 2023 to 2024, as Jaxson Dart’s backup.

Prior to that, he was at LSU for a season, and he would spend another season in Louisiana in 2025. His return to Ole Miss is generating reactions from fans, especially on X.

    C.A. Britt commented:

“I guess all the people who finished behind us in the standings expected us to just have one quarterback on the roster next year. Weird.”

    HIM TEBOW also commented:

“How many times is Walker Howard going to make the same mistake, Jesus Christ?”

    The MasterChief of LSU wrote:

“OM getting anyone and everyone regardless of skill lol. If the player has ties to LSU, they want him…”

    Ken Smith added:

“Now we know the standard. If you can’t make it at LSU, transfer to Ole Miss. They’ll take any of our bench players.”

    Walker Howard’s college career recapped

Walker Howard enrolled at LSU in 2022 and spent his true freshman season under former LSU head coach Brian Kelly. He only played in two games and would redshirt the season. Although he has played in three separate programs, Howard hasn’t played much.

In four years, the quarterback has only appeared in 12 games, starting in only one. Nevertheless, he has not thrown a single touchdown and has only a little above 200 yards. His most active campaign was in the 2025 season, when he played in six games for Louisiana. Through the season, he completed 18 of 41 passes for 155 yards and three interceptions.

Although he entered the 2025 season as a starter for the Ragin’ Cajuns, he picked up an oblique injury in the opener against Rice. He wouldn’t break into the starting lineup again for the rest of the season.

He entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, signing with Ole Miss just a day later, with the portal window closing in two days. The Rebels had intended for quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to return next season.

However, the quarterback’s appeal for an eligibility waiver was denied by the NCAA. Without his star quarterback returning, head coach Pete Golding will have to settle for a familiar option in Walker Howard.
