With the WoW Midnight pre-patch comes some changes to how Unit Frame addons work, which means several addons won’t work anymore. We’ve combed over a list of Unit Frame addons, and have tried them to see what we think of them. The only exceptions are ElvUI and QuaziiUI. I haven’t gotten hands-on with ElvUI, but I’ve heard they will be ready to go for Midnight. Sadly though, Shadowed Unit Frames, one of the more popular addons, is not going to be updated at this time, so it didn’t make the list.
QuaziiUI is behind a Patreon paywall, and while I don’t begrudge anyone monetizing their work, I have not tried it personally. It doesn’t seem like it’s going away with Midnight, but we’ll just have to see for ourselves at a later date. I did want to mention it as a Unit Frame addon for WoW Midnight though, because I know it’s quite popular. You can find and install all of these addons in CurseForge.
Fantastic Unit Frame addons to consider using with WoW Midnight
Below are what we’ve picked as some of the best Unit Frame addons you can use in WoW Midnight right now. It’s not a comprehensive list, so apologies if we’ve left your favorite off that will still work in Midnight. I looked primarily at CurseForge, and considered Unit Frame addons that had recently been updated.
- BetterBlizzFrames
- Malyxi UI
- Unhalted Unit Frames
- MidnightSimpleUnitFrames
- LazarUI
1) BetterBlizzFrames

BetterBlizzFrames is a nice, simple Unit Frame addon for WoW Midnight, and is confirmed working. It features a wide array of profiles you can use (or a simple one you can build upon), and has received quite a few updates. Party Castbars, hidden useless UI elements, a combat indicator, and much more are featured. It’s simple, sleek, but I like it.
2) MalyxUI

MalyxUI on the other hand, adds just a little bit more. It has a font manager, includes selling automation, without, according to it, needing 20 different addons to be efficient. From Nameplates that work exactly like BetterBlizzPlates, 3D animated portraits, automatic party markers, and a few QoL features (Dark Mode, Automatic Keystone Placement for Mythic+, EasyDelete for unwanted items) to boot. I’m not going to lie, I really like the default font, and the damage numbers pop up like they were from a comic book. It’s a nice change of pace from what I’m used to.
3) Unhalted Unit Frames

Unhalted Unit Frames is a very sleek, simple Unit Frame addon for WoW Midnight, that is also 100% confirmed ready for the expansion. It looks nice and clean, but has a mountain of options you can tinker with. Any Unit Frame you could possibly want (Party Member, Target of Target, Pet, Focus, Focus Target, Boss) are customizable.
However, if you already used this, it does warn on CurseForge that it will overwrite previous settings when the pre-patch version is downloaded. I really like Unhalted Unit Frames, for the amount of data it can show, and how easy it is to read.
4) MidnightSimpleUnitFrames

MidnightSimpleUnitFrames is another quality version available for WoW Midnight players, but the developer highlighted that it only works properly in the Midnight Beta, or the PTR. It keeps all of your important data and frames near your character, so it’s easily accessible.
Though CurseForge says that it isn’t available except on the Midnight Beta/launch, I think the pre-patch might work well enough. I installed it on my client, and the options pop up just fine. The only issue is that the cast bar for Crusading Strikes looked like a stretched out icon, and looked pretty awkward. Maybe that’s what it means by “not being ready”. It’s still a Unit Frame I want people to be aware of for when Midnight goes live.
5) LazarUI
LazarUI is built based on the Midnight HUD for WoW, and so it’s going to mostly look pretty familiar. However, it has some nice options in terms of formatting, making it easy to see your cooldowns, buffs, and so much more.
It also added an update where it can track your Trinket, Racials, and Potions by going into the menus. It’s really quite a clever Unit Frame option for World of Warcraft, and while it’s one I don’t know that I’d use often myself, it works, and I can see it being beneficial to players.
