Birmingham City set to finalise move to sign another “terrific” forward after Priske

Birmingham City are now set to finalise their move to sign yet another attacker, according to reports, in the same week that they’ve welcomed August Priske.

    Priske: Birmingham move a “no-brainer”

The Blues have wasted very little time in the January transfer window, securing as many as four winter additions so far, and welcomed their latest signing in Priske earlier this week.

The forward has arrived from Swedish side Djurgarden for an undisclosed fee and will be hoping to spearhead Birmingham’s attempt to climb back into contention for a play-off place in the Championship.

After putting pen to paper, the 21-year-old told the club website: “I said for the last couple of months that, to me, the really interesting part is finding a good project to be a part of and something where I feel like I can develop, and a club who also can take steps.

“And I feel like I’ve found something really great here with Birmingham – a great city, great fans, and a lot of exciting things for the future, so it was kind of a no-brainer.

“I spoke with Craig (Gardner) and Chris (Davies) pretty early on and they said that the (club’s) ambition is not to be where we are right now. They said we have high hopes and high standards for ourselves and that was something that really intrigued me.”

They could get one over on Wrexham.

Those at St. Andrew’s still might not be done there, however. With around two weeks until the January transfer window slams shut, recent reports have indicated that Birmingham could still welcome further additions.

Among those is likely to be Jeremy Sarmiento. According to Sky Sports, Birmingham have now agreed a deal to sign Sarmiento and are set to finalise the formal steps to secure the Brighton & Hove Albion winger.

The 22-year-old has been on loan at Cremonese this season, but has struggled to make his mark in Italy and is heading back to Brighton before a move to Birmingham as a result.

After making just seven appearances in Serie A, a return from loan always seemed likely for the winger, who will be desperate to get back to his best form at St Andrew’s.

Whilst he has failed to make his mark in Italy, it is worth noting that U23 scout Antonio Mango described Sarmiento as “terrific” whilst on loan at West Bromwich Albion in 2023. Now, with the chance to return to the Championship, he could prove that he’s still very much full of potential.
