Celtic are now reportedly racing West Ham United to sign a La Liga attacker, who is expected to leave his current club in the coming days.
Celtic racing West Ham to sign La Liga stars
A number of targets have already come and gone for the Bhoys this month, including Jocelin Ta Bi, who opted out of a move in favour of Sunderland. It’s been an incredibly tough transfer window at a time when they can’t afford to get things wrong.
Martin O’Neill has, however, remained confident that additions are on the way, telling reporters when asked about interest in West Ham’s Callum Wilson and others: “I can’t tell you anything. For want of telling you, it was news to me at the time. But we are in search of those elusive goalscorers. But we’re not the only team as well.
Celtic could sign a Bowie upgrade who’d be their best striker since Kyogo
Celtic have been linked with interest in a striker who would be better than Kieron Bowie and their best number nine since Kyogo Furuhashi.
“On a serious note, I can’t tell you anything about it, but we are – is it becoming my favourite phrase? – we are making progress. Remarkably, I think we are. We’re definitely a bit closer.
“Obviously, we can’t change the squad around for the Bologna game, but we’d like to have some people in for Hearts if it’s at all possible. I’d be hoping by some stage next week that we’d have people in. I’m actually very worried I’ve said that now.”
As things stand, Julian Araujo is the only player to have arrived at Celtic Park this month, despite the fact that the Bhoys sit adrift of Hearts in the Scottish Premiership title race.
Whether that changes is the big question. Recent transfer rumours certainly suggest that it’s not for the want of trying. Wilson, Damir Redzic and others have threatened to steal the headlines, albeit without putting pen to paper in Scotland.
Meanwhile, the Bhoys have also been credited with interest in a La Liga attacker. According to Colombian journalist, Pipe Sierra, as relayed by Sport Witness, Celtic are now racing to sign Yaser Asprilla, who’s expected to leave Girona in the coming days.
Asprilla needs Celtic move
At this stage, Asprilla arguably needs Celtic just as much as they need him after he was presented to the Scottish club. The 22-year-old has been involved in just two goals in 17 games in all competitions this season, and is rapidly at risk of falling away from his potential.
This comes just two seasons after he was involved in 13 goals for Watford in the Championship to earn a move to Girona in the first place, where he earned praise from talent scout Jacek Kulig.
Dubbed “technically gifted” in 2024, Asprilla simply needs to get back to his best form. Whether Celtic can help him to do exactly that is the big question. For the right price, the Hoops should make their move.
