Rangers ready to make move to sign a “massive” £4m upgrade on Gassama

Much can change between now and the end of the season, but there is plenty to be excited about for Danny Rohl and co at Ibrox, not least following an impressive month of business for Glasgow Rangers thus far.

The Gers moved swiftly to bring in a much-needed solution at left-back, in the form of Tuur Rommens, while also bolstering the midfield unit with the signing of Tochi Chukwuani.

The Glasgow side’s biggest deal thus far, however, is of course the loan capture of Andreas Skov Olsen, a deal that includes an option to buy for a fee of around £8.6m.

Could the acquisition of the Dane be a game-changer for the Premiership title race? It’s been a difficult stint in Germany, although the 26-year-old previously racked up 79 goals and assists in 124 games at his previous employers, showcasing the type of talent Rohl and Rangers now have at their disposal.

The German coach – who has tasted defeat just once in 14 league games – is assembling a new-look side at Ibrox, with further moves potentially in the pipeline.

Rangers ready to pounce for another forward after Skov Olsen

First and foremost, it is evident that a new centre-forward is on the agenda for the Light Blues, even after acquiring Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti over the summer.

As reported earlier this week, talks have already been held over a potential deal for 15-goal Motherwell sensation Tawanda Maswanhise, with the former Leicester City man having dazzled in the Premiership this season.

That comes amid continued interest in Hibernian talisman, Kieron Bowie, amid the search for further firepower, although targets are not just restricted to those in Scotland, if recent reports are to be believed.

According to TEAMtalk, for instance, Rangers are still in the picture regarding DAC Dunajska Streda winger, Damir Redzic, despite having cooled their interest somewhat following the signing of Skov Olsen.

As per the report, the Gers ‘haven’t completely withdrawn’ from the race for the 22-year-old’s signature, with Rohl and co ready to pounce if rivals Celtic step up their own interest by lodging a bid.

The Slovak side haven’t received any offers as yet for the promising winger, with any deal likely to cost as much as £4.3m this month.

Why Redzic signing could be the end for Gassama

It says a lot of Rangers’ dismal summer of recruitment that players signed by Kevin Thelwell are already now under threat, with Rohl evidently keen to upgrade on his current wide options at Ibrox.

Mikey Moore, scorer in the derby win at Celtic Park, has begun to thrive on the left flank, although neither Oliver Antman nor Djeidi Gassama has been consistent to date, with the latter man looking a shadow of the player who scored four times in Champions League qualifying.

The former Sheffield Wednesday starlet has largely featured on the right flank since reuniting with Rohl late last year, although the signing of Skov Olsen, and now Redzic, would surely see him slide down the pecking order.

Already a reported target for Villarreal, Gassama has recorded just one goal and three assists in the Premiership to date, having actually recorded just 12 goals and four assists in 84 games down at Hillsborough.

Redzic could then represent the perfect option to swiftly nudge the young Frenchman out the door, with in-demand forward deemed to be a “massive talent“, in the view of Hungarian journalist Bence Bocsak.

Fleet of foot and with pace to burn in his usual right wing role, Redzic has enjoyed a far more fruitful 2025/26 than his Rangers counterpart, netting seven goals and providing one assist in 14 league outings to date.

With 18 goals and assists in 49 games in total for his current side, after chalking up 15 goal involvements in 37 games for Soroksar, Redzic boasts a far better record than Gassama, even while failing to fire in six games at Ferencvaros.

Evidently a superior goalscorer to Gassama, the Hungarian’s creative streak can also be seen in the fact that he averages 2.1 key passes per game this season, as per Sofascore, ahead of the Rangers man’s 1.2 average.

Equally, Redzic betters his fellow winger for successful dribbles completed (2.6 vs 2.1) and for pass accuracy (82% vs 79%), highlighting just what a reliable performer he is down that right flank.

Having the £4.3m man competing with Skov Olsen down that right flank would be an exciting prospect for the Gers, not least after witnessing the woes of Antman and Gassama in recent months.

With LaLiga interest there in the latter man, Rangers could cut their losses on the 22-year-old this month, putting those funds toward signing a potential diamond like Redzic.
