AEW’s Hangman Page finally addresses backlash over his picture with a controversial star

AEW star Hangman Page recently faced criticism after being seen in a photo with a controversial star. Page has finally addressed the backlash in a new interview.

Hangman Page is one of AEW’s biggest stars right now. The reigning Trios champion, alongside JetSpeed (Kevin Knight and Mike “Speedball” Bailey). While his professional life appears to be on track, Page was recently criticized online after being seen with controversial star Marty Scurll.

Scurll, a.k.a. “The Villain,” was once an ally of Page in NJPW as part of the Bullet Club. The 37-year-old is a bona fide wrestling veteran, having competed across many promotions, including ROH, NJPW, TNA, NWA, and RevPro, among others. However, Scurll’s career went downhill after he was accused of sexual misconduct with a 16-year-old girl in the U.K. at a gathering in 2015. In January, Scurll posted a photo of himself and the Anxious Perrenial Cowboy on Instagram, which drew backlash against Page by association. Hangman finally addressed that criticism in a recent interview with the Takedown on SI and clarified his association with Scurll.

“I guess I kind of will make a couple of things clear about it. I completely recognize that what he did, his actions, are abhorrent. Disgraceful. They are. There’s no excuse. I completely recognize that..I don’t want that photo to seem like some kind of endorsement, or, I have any interest whatsoever in whitewashing what he did, or any interest or intention of rehabilitating his public image,” said Page [H/T: Takedown on SI]
