Cooper Kupp highlights major differences between Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford ahead of Super Bowl 2026

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp pointed out the defining characteristics that set Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford apart. Kupp, who played alongside Stafford with the LA Rams, is set to challenge for his second Super Bowl ring with Darnold on Sunday.

Stafford and Darnold are leading MVP candidates this season and are often compared. Kupp shared his experience being around both quarterbacks and their differences on Wednesday.

“One’s got red hair, one’s got gray hair,” Kupp said, via the “New Heights” podcast. “It is great, though. Matthew saying when he comes in, it’s like, ‘Oh, I’ve seen that.’ Like, any look, ‘Oh, I saw that. You know, 2012 Week 4, like, they brought that same pressure.’ It’s like, OK, you’re ridiculous, dude.

“You can’t compete with the experience that he has because it’s not just the experience, not just time. It’s memory. … He’s like an AI center. And for Sam, Sam is so processed. It’s like, man, he’s seen a lot, he’s been in a lot of different situations, and he carries that stuff with him well. But a lot of it is his process, and he’s preparing through the week.”

Cooper Kupp’s journey from the Rams to the Super Bowl

Cooper Kupp was cut by the LA Rams after the 2024 season, ending his partnership with Matthew Stafford. He has found a home with the Seattle Seahawks, where he has linked with Sam Darnold and is providing leadership for younger receivers.

Kupp and the Seahawks advanced to the Super Bowl by beating Stafford and his former team in the NFC championship game.

“It was a tough ending in LA, and so to be able to get here to have the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl, and just for the scriptwriters to put the Rams in the NFC championship against the Seahawks, that was a pretty dastardly thing by them,” Kupp said during the postgame presser on Jan. 25.

Kupp might not be the main target on Seattle’s offense on Sunday. However, he will be a solid option for Darnold, especially with his experience playing in the Super Bowl.
