Cowboys announce news on George Pickens as WR opens up on contract situation

For a wide range of analysts and fans, Dallas had a resounding failure of a season in 2026. The Cowboys finished with a losing record and no playoffs, which translates into a disastrous campaign for the franchise. However, contrary to what one might think, and even in the midst of chaos, there was one redeeming point: the play of George Pickens.

During his first year with the Lone Star, the receiver posted good numbers and put in performances that stood out despite Dallas’ 7-9-1 finish. His figure was one of the most recognized on offense, which in general performed very well; the defense is the weak point that weighed in the end because of its fragility.

The Cowboys lost four of their last five games, which meant losing all possibility of reaching the postseason. One of the least criticized was Pickens, because it was noticeable that he was not the problem and that he responded when given minutes of action. His statistics are valued in view of the contract renewal:

    • 93 receptions for 1,429 yards
    • Nine touchdowns
    • Named to the first All-Pro selection

After his performances during the season, the receiver was called up for his first Pro Bowl Games selection. He joined CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, Brandon Aubrey, Quinnen Williams and Tyler Smith as the Cowboys’ picks for this special game.

Pickens was instrumental in the NFC’s 66-52 victory over the AFC. The game was tied at 52-52 going into the fourth quarter when he came in and changed the course of the game when he scored a touchdown on a pass from Prescott

The receiver finished with three receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown. He was also named Offensive Most Valuable Player. Tampa Bay safety Antoine Winfield was named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the 2026 Pro Bowl.

Dak Prescott wants George Pickens in Dallas

The receiver has to sit at the negotiating table with Jerry Jones for the contract renewal. While that agreement period arrives, Prescott sends a message to the Cowboys owner about the importance of keeping Pickens on the team for next season.

We know we have to fix that side (defensive) of the ball. But we also have to make sure we don’t settle for what we’ve done on our side of the ball. We have to sign one of our guys (Pickens) and make sure we take a big step forward on offense as well
