Joe Flacco shares honest feelings on Kevin Stefanski landing Falcons HC job after being fired by Browns

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco sent a strong message about his former Cleveland Browns coach, Kevin Stefanski, while discussing Stefanski’s new challenge. As he enters the offseason without a team, Flacco sees how things are shaping up around the league.

Stefanski joined the Atlanta Falcons as Raheem Morris’ replacement, but his arrival was met with skepticism from certain zones. During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, the host shared his thoughts on the move. Flacco had positive things to say about the two-time NFL Coach of the Year award winner.

McAfee: Stefanski just got another job very quickly. I was surprised by that personally.

Flacco: Really? I mean, he was another one of those guys. He took Cleveland to the playoffs a couple times, came in and had success right away. I think he’s probably like, that was his first head coaching job, and you learn as you go, and I think it’s going to be a good fresh start for him, and I’m excited to see what he can do.

Kevin Stefanski spent six seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He posted just two winning seasons over that span (11-5 in 2020 and 11-6 in 2023), taking the team to the playoffs both times. Both campaigns earned him the coveted award.

Joe Flacco had two different tenures with Kevin Stefanski on the Browns

Joe Flacco was Kevin Stefanski’s head coach for five games in 2023. The quarterback went straight from the couch to the field, going 123 of 204 for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns with eight interceptions. The Browns couldn’t move past a rookie head coach-quarterback duo in C.J. Stroud and DeMeco Ryans, losing in the 2023 wild-card round.

The Stefanski-Flacco reunion in 2025 didn’t work as expected. The quarterback was shipped to the Cincinnati Bengals after four games, where he went 93 of 160 for 815 yards and two touchdowns with six interceptions.

Rookie Dillon Gabriel replaced Joe Flacco when he joined the Bengals. Fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders started the final seven games of the season, going 120 of 212 for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
