Alex Pereira could be facing Shara Magomedov next but with one major catch

Alex Pereira had been asking for a Jon Jones fight at the UFC White House event, but there has been no progress on that.

The UFC lightweight champion was keen on facing one of the MMA greats; however, it seems something else might have opened up for the Brazilian.

Rizvan Magomedov of Dominance MMA was speaking to Sport24 and was asked about Shara Magomedov’s next UFC fight.

He was also questioned about rumors of ‘Bullet’ facing Pereira in a wrestling match. Rizvan opened up about Shara’s wrestling moves and confirmed that there are some fight talks on, but the locations have been limited due to his United States travel issues:

“I think Shara is quietly transitioning from a striker to a wrestler. Meanwhile, regarding his fight, we are waiting for a date, ideally an event in the Middle East or somewhere else. Since, for obvious reasons, he can’t compete in the United States.”

Rizvan continued by bringing up the similarities of the two fighters:

“He’s filling this free time with these kind of matches, but it will be interesting to see this fight. It’s essentially two strikers, two specialized strikers who will be fighting.”

He went on to say that discussions were taking place for the wrestling match:

    “The negotiations are ongoing.”

Check out Rizvan Magomedov speaking about Shara Magomedov vs. Alex Pereira:

It’s worth noting that Shara did wrestle Arman Tsarukyan in a one-round exhibition bout last year. So, it wouldn’t be out of place if Pereira and ‘Bullet’ did one round of wrestling sometime in the future.

Jon Jones opens up on facing Alex Pereira at the UFC White House

Alex Pereira’s dreams of fighting at the UFC White House event seem to be fading with each passing day.

Jones, who was also keen on facing the Brazilian at the grand event, recently spoke to The Schmo and confirmed he is unsure about the fight taking place:

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, Schmo. I’m working out, I’m eating healthy. I’m living the lifestyle, I’m walking the walk. I’ve done it my whole life, and I don’t really know what’s going to happen, but regardless, man. I take it one day at a time. Some things are just out of my control. But I feel good, I feel blessed. Whether I fight again or not, I feel wonderful. I’m so grateful for this life God has granted me with.”

Recently, Jones also spoke to Helen Yee and suggested he might retire from combat sports and pursue other ventures.
