Popular sports commentator Skip Bayless took a dig at New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye following his disappointing outing at the Super Bowl. The Patriots suffered a 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl, ending their impressive 2025 campaign on a disappointing note.
Maye’s performance against Seattle was notably underwhelming, as the quarterback lost a fumble and threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a score. His 295 passing yards and two touchdowns couldn’t make up for the disappointment as the Seahawks emerged as the Super Bowl champions.
Thanks for the submission!
Bayless mocked the quarterback’s struggles in a post he made on X after the game late on Sunday night. He wrote:
•
“I’ll go back to my original nickname for Drake Maye before his draft: Drake Maybe.”

Before that post, Bayless attempted to explain why Maye was struggling in the game, especially with his passes. He wrote:
“Drake Maye’s shoulder has to still be bothering him. He has thrown some midrange passes with velocity. But his deep balls float like they’ve slipped out of his hands.”
Another look at Drake Maye’s postseason performance
As Bayless noted, Drake Maye was hindered by his sore right shoulder. He needed a pregame painkilling injection because of the shoulder and faced an aggressive Seahawks defense, suffering 11 quarterback hits.
The Patriots’ rookie left tackle, Will Campbell, gave up 14 pressures. It was more than any number allowed by any offensive lineman in any game this season, per Next Gen Stats. However, Maye has shown a notable decline in his game throughout the postseason.
It may be argued that the defenses he faced against the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, and Seattle are strong. But he failed to show any of the promise that marked him out during the regular season.
The second-year quarterback was sacked at least five times against each of the Patriots’ postseason opponents. He also fumbled seven times and threw four interceptions. In the AFC Championship Game against the Broncos, he threw for 86 yards as the Patriots grinded out a 10-7 win.
Nevertheless, this is not the highlight of Maye’s season. The former first-round pick showed throughout the season that he is the leader of the Patriots’ new resurgence.
At only 23 years old, Sunday marked Maye’s first trip to the Super Bowl. However, many Patriots fans will be expecting him to lead their team into several more Super Bowl appearances.
