“He’s a joke” “It’s coaching malpractice”: NFL fans rip Will Campbell as Patriots OT reveals not being 100% vs. Seahawks in Super Bowl

Will Campbell had a Super Bowl to forget. The rookie offensive tackle gave up 14 quarterback pressures in the loss. He didn’t speak to the press after the game.

Campbell has now broken his silence, revealing that he tore a ligament in his knee during the season. He wasn’t 100% for the playoffs, but didn’t use it as an excuse.

NFL fans weren’t buying it and took to X to air out the rookie OT.

    A fan said, “LOL he’s a joke.”

Another added, “Either he was good to go and this is an excuse from him or it’s coaching malpractice to have him in over Lowe. One of the other.”

One wrote, “Here we go … crocodile teared excuses😥

    Some fans were less critical.

One said, “I figured it was related to his injury, he was a shell of his former self. Should have shelved him for the year. Hope he’s okay for Pre Season.”

Another added, “I figured he wasn’t healthy. He did not even look close to the same after he came back from the injury.”

One chipped in, saying, “This is entirely on management….he should not have been playing.”

Will Campbell and the rest of the Patriots’ offensive line struggled mightily in the loss. The unit gave up six sacks in the blowout defeat.

It’s currently unclear as to when Will Campbell suffered the knee injury. He and the rest of the unit will now look to recuperate and regroup ahead of the 2026 season.

Drake Maye comes to Will Campbell’s defense

Drake Maye heard the criticism of his rookie teammate, and he’s quickly come to his defense. Maye had some kind words for Campbell after the big game loss.

“The expectations of a first-round pick, I think he’s dealt with so much this year. It’s only going to be great for him in the future. He’s going to be a great player in this league. He’s already a great player in this league.

“I look forward to seeing him in the offseason, hanging out with him, and getting back to OTAs. I love Will, and I look forward to playing with him for a long time.” Maye told reporters.

Drake Maye finished second in MVP voting behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. His offensive line was a key factor in his improvement from his 2025 rookie season.

Will Campbell was a regular fixture in that offensive line, and his Super Bowl nightmare could be attributed to the injury. His star quarterback is looking forward to linking up in OTAs and running it back.
