The flamboyant Indian opener Abhishek Sharma needs to stay at the hospital due to his stomach infection which makes him uncertain for the T20 World Cup match against Namibia scheduled for Thursday.
Sharma has been confined to the hospital for two consecutive days.
Abhishek needs treatment for his stomach infection at a Delhi private hospital. The medical team must conduct tests to identify his health issue. The medical team needs to decide whether he can leave the hospital today. The BCCI source said that his match availability against Namibia currently shows uncertainty.
The Indian team management wants him to play during the important match against Pakistan which takes place on February 15 in Colombo.
The 25-year-old player attended the Sunday dinner at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s house but he departed before his teammates did.
Ryan ten Doeschate announced before the match that Washington Sundar had returned to Team India after completing his recovery process at the BCCI Centre of Excellence from his side strain injury. The team has lost their explosive opener Abhishek Sharma who did not participate in practice on Tuesday because of his ongoing health problems.
Sundar completed his return to the team yesterday and he will participate in training with the squad today. Abhishek has a tummy issue which he needs to recover from before the Namibia match according to Doeschate.
Abhishek was dismissed without scoring in the USA game yet he apparently played through both a stomach illness and a fever. The TOI reported that he required hospitalization in Mumbai where doctors treated his condition with IV fluids for immediate relief. Sanju Samson may take his spot in the playing XI if he fails to recover before practice.
Bumrah missed the USA game because of a viral fever yet he appears to be preparing for his return to play with India.
Bumrah started bowling again after resting for 10 days and he reports feeling much better. Doeschate reported that Abhishek is showing good physical condition and today he will attempt another bowling session.
The final decision regarding Bumrah and Abhishek and Washington will most likely be taken after the training on Wednesday.
