Arsenal are now leading the race to sign a “fantastic” forward this summer, and manager Mikel Arteta thinks he would be a perfect fit in his system.
Gunners eyeing new forward amid title race
The Gunners are setting the pace at the top of the Premier League table, but they were unable to extend their lead to nine points at the weekend, with Manchester City completing a late comeback to defeat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield.
However, Martin Keown has suggested the gap staying at six points could help Arteta’s side in the long run, saying: “If the gap had stretched to nine points, all the media would have written the narrative that ‘Arsenal are champions.
“I think it actually helps Arsenal players keep a sense of reality if Man City win and the gap stays as it is.”
Although the north Londoners are in a strong position to win the league, none of their attacking players have particularly stood out, with top scorer Viktor Gyokeres scoring just eight goals in 23 outings.
With Gabriel Martinelli not exactly setting the world alight either, scoring just one Premier League goal this season, it could be a smart move to bring in a new forward this summer, and Arsenal are now leading the race to sign AC Milan star Christian Pulisic.
That is according to a report from Spain, which states Arteta believes Pulisic would be a perfect fit in his system, with the winger’s future at the San Siro up in the air, given that there has been no progress in negotiations over a new contract.
With the American’s contract set to expire at the end of next season, time is running out for Milan, and the Gunners have the ‘financial resources’ required to get a deal over the line.
Pulisic could be “fantastic” signing for Arsenal
The ex-Chelsea star has established himself as a key player for Milan since joining ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, and he could be on course to record his most prolific season to date in terms of attacking contributions.

Lauded as “fantastic” by former manager Paulo Fonseca, the 27-year-old also has experience in England, chipping in with 26 goals and 21 matches in 145 matches across all appearances for the Blues.
Pulisic, who pockets £86k-a-week, could be a success at the Emirates Stadium, but there are question marks over whether Arteta needs to bring in another forward, with the Spaniard’s squad depth arguably hampering the development of some of his younger players…
Arsenal’s squad depth is ruining the “most exciting footballer in England”
Mikel Arteta has plenty of options to choose from at Arsenal but it’s not been great news for some in the squad.
