Tristan Stubbs smashes last-ball six to force historic second Super Over in SA vs AFG T20 World Cup 2026 match [Watch]

South Africa batter Tristan Stubbs slammed a six off the last ball to force a second Super Over in their T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Afghanistan on Wednesday in Ahmedabad. Stubbs took full toll of the low full-toss sent down by Fazalhaq Farooqi to tie the game again.

With seven required off the final ball, the left-arm seamer bowled right into the arc as the 25-year-old cleared the long-off fielder comfortably. Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott showcased a distraught reaction, while captain Rashid Khan held his head in frustration.

Here’s the moment when Tristan Stubbs forced a historic second tie:

The Proteas seemed under pressure in the first Super Over as Dewald Brevis lost his wicket on the third delivery after smashing a six off the previous one. Tristan Stubbs, who came in next, opened his account with a boundary but the second-last ball resulted in a dot.

With South Africa batting first in the second Super Over, David Miller punished Azmatullah Omarzai for two consecutive sixes after Stubbs slammed a maximum off the opening delivery. They eventually set 24 for Rashid Khan and Co. to win.

Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj bowled the second Super Over and got the better of Mohammad Nabi for a two-ball duck. Nevertheless, Rahmanullah Gurbaz kept the fight on by clobbering a hat-trick of sixes. Maharaj bowled a wide after that but held his nerve to dismiss the opener as Afghanistan finished less short by 4 runs.

As far as the match goes, Ryan Rickelton (61) and Quinton de Kock (58) starred to propel the Proteas to 187 for 6. Afghanistan struggled to sustain momentum but Gurbaz’s 42-ball 84 kept them in the hunt. It all came down to 13 required off the final over as the Afghans managed to tie the match.

But a second successive loss means Afghanistan could fail to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
