American figure skater Amber Glenn won the gold medal in the team event at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. She took advantage of that golden conquest to hit back at her critics and detractors after the hate messages against her for defending the LGBT community from attacks during Donald Trump’s administration.
In a press conference prior to the event, the skater stated that different communities were going through a difficult and adverse time because of the president’s political agenda, so she considered that it is a stage in which all groups that are being affected by Trumpism should unite. This led to attacks on her on social networks, to which Glenn responded.
They hate to see two progressive bitches winning. If progressive means people who use their platforms to stand up for marginalized communities in the country they are actively representing… then, yeah, sure?
The athlete insisted that she will not remain silent in the face of what she describes as “unfair” and an attack on the human rights of individuals. She regrets that there is a sector that sympathizes with Trump and resorts to hate speech to support its ideas.Contrary to what many believed, Glenn was not going to be vulnerable in her mental health. On the contrary, she declares herself strengthened to face this type of reaction that seeks to harm her in what was her weakest point a few years ago.
Amber Glenn and mental health background
At the age of 15, she faced a mental health crisis that led to her being admitted to a specialist centre. She was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and an eating disorder. She later learned that she also had ADHD. She then began to train and manage her private life with the support of therapy to work on her care
In 2019, Glenn came out as pansexual. By that time she had already strengthened her confidence and self-esteem to accept herself as she is and to understand that she was going to be criticized. She faced the judgments and hate messages strengthened mentally. She also said she felt free by not keeping quiet.
