FSG are now ready to welcome yet another attacking star at Liverpool this summer, having established contact with one impressive star who grew up as a fan of the club.
The Reds’ transfer business has been the topic of much discussion this season after they splashed out around £450m to welcome a number of new stars last summer, before struggling to defend their Premier League crown.
Having broken their transfer record twice to sign Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, Arne Slot‘s side were expected to be more unstoppable than ever. For the first time, Liverpool were the big spenders of the summer.

Things haven’t quite gone to plan since those arrivals, however. Wirtz is only just beginning to settle into life at Anfield, as is the case with Milos Kerkez, whilst Isak has barely featured and has been sidelined with a serious foot injury. Out of every arrival, it’s only Hugo Ekitike that hit the ground running from the off.
That has culminated in an incredibly disappointing campaign, with Champions League qualification now in doubt. As things stand, the Premier League champions are as low as sixth and three points adrift of fourth-place Manchester United.
Serious questions will be asked if Liverpool miss out on top four and those questions could receive answers courtesy of the summer transfer window.
As frustrating as Gakpo: FSG must finally sell Liverpool’s £34m “superstar”
Liverpool are gearing up for another summer of significant change in the transfer window.
FSG splashed the cash once and could now do so again to finish a new-look Liverpool. Recent reports have claimed that the Reds are interested in attacking additions such as Mateus Mane from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but their focus could once again turn towards a Newcastle United star.
According to Caught Offside, FSG have now made contact with Anthony Gordon over a possible move to Liverpool this summer in a deal which could cost as much as £95m, and they’re in pole position.
£95m Gordon could finally replace Diaz
Liverpool’s biggest problem this season has been their physicality. As they chose to head down the path of control, the Premier League became all about powerhouse players in the summer.
Liverpool hold in-person talks to sign teenager wanted by all England’s biggest clubs
He’s enjoyed an impressive season.
It’s why Arsenal have bullied their way to the top of the tree and why Liverpool have been bullied almost every time a set piece enters their area.
It’s also why Liverpool’s press has suffered. Gone are the days of the relentless Jurgen Klopp press and Luis Diaz’s exit was the final nail in the coffin on that front.
Slot’s side, without the same control and conviction as last season, have suffered without the ball and without a player who works as hard off the ball as Diaz. But Gordon could solve that problem.
The Newcastle man, who was dubbed “clinical” by England boss Thomas Tuchel, grew up as a Liverpool fan despite graduating from Everton’s academy and could yet realise his dream of playing for the Reds.
