Je’Von Evans says this WWE Star, not Gunther, has the stiffest chops

WWE Superstar Gunther is known for having some of the stiffest chops in the game today. And that’s in an era of pro wrestling where wrestlers are seriously laying their stuff in. Despite the Ring General’s reputation, he may not actually be the King, per a recent RAW call-up.

21-year-old sensation Je’Von Evans joined the RAW roster officially last month. The Young OG’s incredible airborne offense and earnest, genuine personality made him an instant success with WWE fans, allowing him to face the best the promotion had to offer, even in his early days in NXT. Evans even managed to take on Randy Orton on an episode of NXT back in 2024.

Speaking to Grind City Media, Evans was asked a question that every single wrestler has heard at some point in their lifetime: Who has the hardest chops? The most obvious answer would be Gunther, surely. However, Evans pointed to another stiff-striking competitor, former WWE NXT alumni and former US Champion Ilja Dragunov.

“Gunther’s chops hurt. Don’t get me wrong, they’re pretty bad. But…Ilja Dragunov. I went against Ilja my second match on TV on NXT for the NXT Championship. I tried to go for a kick in the corner, but he threw it down. I was trying to be slick, so once he threw it down, I threw it back up. He caught it again and put my leg in the ropes. And he gave me a couple, but the first chop was CRAZY! In my head I was like, ‘I’m gonna try to avoid every chop from Ilja for the rest of my life.'”

Gunther’s chops may not be the worst for Je’Von, but they were harsh on the latest episode of WWE RAW when the two clashed with Dominik Mysterio.

Je’Von Evans advanced to the WWE Elimination Chamber match

In the main event of Monday Night RAW, Je’Von Evans, Gunther, and Intercontinental Champion & AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio faced off for a slot in the men’s Elimination Chamber match. Despite his popularity, Evans was essentially the underdog here, with Career Killer Gunther and double champ Dirty Dom seeming like strong favorites.

Thanks to Dragon Lee getting revenge on Gunther with a ring bell, it left a battered Evans to the hands of Mysterio. A 619 rocked Evans, but he managed to avoid the Frog Splash and dropped the Dirty One with the OG Cutter, sending him to Chicago. He’ll meet LA Knight, Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and two others at WWE Elimination Chamber in a little over a week.
