The AEW World Champion MJF recently alleged that WWE has buried a SmackDown star ever since he debuted in the company. The star Max was referring to is none other than the MFT’s JC Mateo who was known as Jeff Cobb during his time outside WWE.
In a recent Instagram live, MFT’s Tama Tonga boasted his use of the Cut Throat move which is a variation of Will Ospreay’s Hidden Blade. The AEW World Champ replied to a clip of that stream and supported Tonga by taking a shot at Ospreay. Kyle Fletcher also agreed with what Max had to say but the Champion also trolled him in his next tweet.
The Protostar responded to MJF’s comment by saying that he’ll send him to the MFT purgatory. The Salt of the Earth then alleged that he misses Jeff Cobb despite the fact that he’s still competing in WWE as JC Mateo. He was clearly alleging the Stamford-based promotion of burying the former Never Openweight Champion.
“Remember Jeff Cobb? He was freaking AWESOME. ;Miss that guy,” he wrote.
It is true that JC Mateo was a big name before joining the Entertainment Juggernaut and has been heavily underutilised in the promotion. He was booked as a major singles competitor in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
MJF recently defended his AEW World Championship in Australia
All Elite Wrestling recently hosted their Grandslam event in Sydney, Australia. In the main event of the show, The Devil defended his AEW World Championship against Brody King. Brody got this opportunity after he beat Maxwell in an Eliminator match on Dynamite earlier this month.
After an intense match, MJF picked up the win and succesfully defended his gold again. He was later confronted by Hangman who became the Number 1 Contender for the title by beating Andrade earlier in the night. The two will face off at the Revolution pay-per-view next month for the Championship.
It will be interesting to see if Friedman will be able to beat the Cowboy in their Championship showdown next month.
