Afghanistan ended their disappointing campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on a high as they thrashed Canada in their last group game. The Rashid Khan-led side registered an 82-run win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday. Asked to bat, Afghanistan posted a massive total of 200 for four, and then restricted Canada to 118 for eight.
Afghanistan had a great start to their innings with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (30) and Ibrahim Zadran (95*) taking on Canada bowlers right from the start. However, Canada were quick to make a comeback with two wickets for two runs.
Sediqullah Atal (44) then joined hands with Zadran and the duo brought their side back in the game with their 95-run stand. Zadran carried his bat through and thanks to his innings, Afghanistan posted a total of 200 for four.

In the chase, Canada started well with Yuvraj Samra and captain Dilpreet Bajwa having starts. Their 25-run opening stand gave a glimpse that Canada would put up a great fight. However, Afghanistan, after the first wicket, was all over the Canada side.
Saad Bin Zafar (28) was the only batter who went past the 20-run mark while others failed badly. Mohammad Nabi picked four wickets as Afghanistan restricted Canada to 118 for eight to win by 82 runs.
