Zimbabwe finished their group stage of T20 World Cup 2026 unbeaten.
Zimbabwe’s staggering run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 continued as after beating Australia, they now thumped Sri Lanka. The Sikandar Raza-led side registered a six-wicket win at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday. Opting to bat, Sri Lanka managed 178 for seven, which Zimbabwe chased in the last over.
Sri Lanka had a great start to their innings with Pathum Nissanka (62) carrying his good form. He hit a valiant half-century, sharing a 54-run stand with Kusal Perera (22).
In the middle overs, Sri Lanka struggled to get going in the middle overs as Zimbabwe bowlers chipped in with regular intervals, not allowing the majority of batters to go past the 20-run mark.
Pavan Rathnayake (44), however, came to the rescue and played a brilliant hand while batting at four. An unbeaten 15-run knock in the end by Dunith Wellalage powered Sri Lanka to 178 for seven.
Brian Bennett, Sikandar Raza star as Zimbabwe register brilliant win
Zimbabwe had a dream start to their chase with both openers in Brian Bennett (69) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (34) batting incredibly well. They stitched an opening stand of 69 runs and after that Ryan Burl (23) took forward the momentum along with Bennett.
While, Bural fell after a solid start, captain Sikandar Raza (45) held the fort for his team with his brilliant innings. His 69-run stand with Bennett almost took Zimbabwe past the finishing line.
Although, there was a slight hiccup in the end, Tony Munyonga and Bennett held their nerves and took their team to a six-wicket win.
