3 Ways Chris Jericho can return to AEW

AEW star Chris Jericho is one of the most recognisable names in professional wrestling. He has been with the Jacksonville-based company since 2019 and is a former AEW World Champion.

Tony Khan initially booked the veteran well. Y2J was a Dynamite regular and had memorable rivalries with several popular wrestlers. Unfortunately, he has not featured in any of the company’s programs in a long time. Rumors arose a few months back that he is done with All Elite Wrestling and is close to rejoining WWE. However, Fightful recently reported that the former ROH World Champion is still under contract. The report further said that his deal was frozen after he went on a hiatus last year.

This means that Jericho’s AEW return is quite likely. He is a legend afterall and Tony Khan evidently does not want him to leave.

Let us take a look at 3 Ways Chris Jericho can return to AEW.

#3. Chris Jericho could join the commentary team

AEW has an immensely commentators. Tony Khan has been signing many wrestlers this year, and it will certainly make sense to strengthen the commentary team as well. Chris Jericho is one of the greatest on the microphone, and he would fit in this role well.

Y2J could be an excellent heel commentator. In a 2025 episode of Grilling JR, All Elite Wrestling’s Jim Ross said that the former World Champion is an invaluable asset, and it will be a huge loss if he is let go.

“I really want to believe he’s returning to AEW. He’s a really important piece of the puzzle. He’s good with ideas, he’s good at helping talents, and he can still work. With all his experience, he’s got great name identity, you can’t just replicate that overnight. I hope that he sticks with AEW. It’s gonna depend a lot on the creative and what he expects from the company, and how the company can help him continue to build his legacy. It’d be a loss for AEW if Jericho decided to depart in my opinion. He’s just that valuable,” he said.

    #2. One last feud

Chris Jericho was one of the earliest names to join All Elite Wrestling. He is undoubtedly a company legend, and it will be disappointing if he leaves without wrestling one last time.

Y2J must have a final feud in AEW. He was a heel when he went on hiatus, so it will make sense for him to return as a villain. It will be interesting to see him attack “Hangman” Adam Page at Revolution. This will be a shocking moment, and in his last match, he could put the Anxious Millennial Cowboy over.

#1. Become the Death Riders’ new leader

The Death Riders are not entirely a heel. Their leader, Jon Moxley, turned face after becoming the AEW Continental Champion. It seems like he is the only good guy in this villainous group, and fans are quite confused about this.

The Death Riders need a reset. Moxley could be kicked out and replaced by Chris Jericho in the near future. However, this is just speculation. Only time will tell what the future holds for him.
