India is all set to face Spain in their seventh match of the 2025-26 FIH Hockey Pro League on Tuesday (February 24). The Indians, who put in their best performance of the season thus far against Australia a couple of days ago, will be looking to carry the momentum forward, even as they search for their first outright win.
India failed to win any of their matches against Belgium and Argentina during the Rourkela leg of the tournament earlier this month.
Craig Fulton’s team, who are missing the likes of Manpreet Singh and Harmanpreet Singh, then lost 0-2 to Spain in Hobart in the opening match of the Australian swing.
In the absence of ace drag flicker and regular captain Harmanpreet Singh, who has been struggling with his form of late, both Amit Rohidas and Jugraj Singh scored from penalty corners in the game against Australia.
A late surge helped the Kookaburras salvage a 2-2 draw, followed by a shootout win (5-4), but the manner in which the Indians kept the Aussie defence on their toes while also thwarting a wave of attacks was admirable.
Craig Fulton’s team were unfortunate to have missed out on a bonus point in the close shootout, but the performance against Australia was just the kind of morale booster the Olympic bronze medalists needed.
Youngsters like Aditya Lalage played fearlessly against Mark Hager’s team and will need to attack the Spaniards upfield much more consistently in the reverse fixture than in the first game.
Mohith HS and Suraj Karkera have pulled off a few sensational saves thus far in Hobart, but will need to stand tall in goal yet again to ensure the Indians do not concede early.

India vs Spain: FIH Hockey Pro League Prediction
Making the most of opportunities from the top of the circle could well be the key for the Indians, who manufactured just one penalty corner in the previous game against Spain. The upcoming encounter against Max Caldas’ team, who went down 0-3 to Australia on Monday, presents a golden chance for the Indians to earn their first outright win of the season.
The Indian defence, which was considerably stretched in the final quarter of the match against the Aussies, will need to be tidy and disciplined throughout the entirety of the big match if the Men in Blue wish to earn full points for the first time this season.
Score Prediction: India 4 – 2 Spain
