Bev Yanez left no stone unturned during her first year coaching Racing Louisville in 2024. Or so she thought.
When the dust settled, Racing finished 7-12-7, checked into the club’s familiar place in ninth on the table, and missed the playoffs for the fourth time in four years since entering NWSL in 2021. Yanez remained confident in her ability to coach the club. She also knew that 2025 needed to be different.
“Coming out of that 2024 season, I knew that something had to change,” Yanez said in a phone interview last week.
“My big thing when I first got the role was, I wanted to prove that I could do this,” she continued. “I wanted to prove that I knew what I was talking about. I wanted to provide all the tactics for the group to feel successful. I barely slept. I was up all night trying to sort out what would best prepare them.”
