Although Pakistan got eliminated from T20 World Cup 2026, they managed to end their campaign on a high. They beat Sri Lanka by five runs at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday. Asked to bat, Pakistan posted a total of 212 for eight, and then restricted Sri Lanka to 207 for six. With Pakistan failing to defend 147, New Zealand qualified for the semi-final.
Pakistan had a dream start as their decision to change the opening combination did wonders for them. Sahibzada Farhan (100) and Fakhar Zaman (84) came out all guns blazing.
With Pakistan needing to win by a margin of 65 or more, the Farhan-Zaman duo were all over the Sri Lanka bowlers, adding 176 runs for the opening wicket. After Zaman got out, Farhan went on to hit his second hundred of the tournament.
However, the rest of the batters failed to capitalise on the platform and got out in single digits. Pakistan ended with 212 for eight, and for Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka picked three wickets.

In the chase, Pakistan lost opener Pathum Nissanka early. Kamil Mishara (26) and Charith Asalanka (25) tried to counter-attack Pakistan bowlers but both became victims of Abrar Ahmed.
At one stage, Sri Lanka were struggling at 101 for five, but it was Pavan Rathnayake (58) who held the one end up and looked pretty solid. He not only hit a half-century but also knocked Pakistan out of the tournament, taking his team past 148.
Dasun Shanaka (76*) also hit a brutal half-century and put Pakistan under pressure. With 28 runs needed off the last over, Shanaka almost stole the win for his team but fell short by just five runs.
