Caleb Williams‘s breakout performance in the 2025 NFL season has ignited lively discussions about quarterback rankings across the league, with some observers comparing him to Green Bay Packers star Jordan Love as the premier signal-caller in the NFC North.
The debate comes after a season of contrasting results for the two quarterbacks. Following a shaky rookie year, Williams led the Chicago Bears to significant success, throwing for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.
His meteoric rise positioned him as one of the league’s most exciting young talents, attracting widespread attention from analysts and fans alike.
Adding fuel to the conversation, Sports Illustrated insider Grant Cohn posted on X.com that the Packers “would trade Jordan Love for Caleb Williams in a heartbeat.”
The comment sparked immediate debate online, with Terrence Parsons Jr., the brother of Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons, reacting sharply: “Are you sure?” His retort underscored the idea that Love’s value in Green Bay remains high and not easily dismissed.
Comparing the quarterbacks’ 2025 campaigns
Statistically, Love threw for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2025, maintaining solid numbers but raising questions about whether Williams has already surpassed him in impact.
According to Pro Football Focus‘s annual Top 101 player rankings, Love was No. 37-his second appearance on the list-while Williams did not make the cut, despite leading the Bears past Green Bay and into playoff contention.
Alongside Micah Parsons (No. 13) and safety Xavier McKinney (No. 66), Love was one of only three Packers to make the rankings, highlighting both his individual recognition and the ongoing comparisons with Williams.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears’ backup quarterback Tyson Bagent has emerged as an intriguing trade candidate for 2026. Teams have expressed interest in the 25-year-old, whose two-year, $10 million extension signed in 2025 includes incentives that make him a valuable developmental talent.
At the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Bears GM Ryan Poles and head coach Ben Johnson confirmed that calls regarding Bagent have been received.
“Let it be known they’ll take calls on Bagent, whom Johnson holds in high regard,” wrote Brad Biggs, noting that a trade would likely require a second-round pick or equivalent value.
Through 12 games in 2025, Bagent completed 66.4% of passes for 917 yards, three touchdowns, six interceptions, and added 109 rushing yards with two scores.
While meetings with agents do not guarantee a trade, the Bears appear to be planning contingencies behind starter Caleb Williams, who has yet to miss a game in his two-year NFL career. This leaves Bagent‘s long-term future in Chicago uncertain but positions him as a key asset for teams seeking a capable backup with potential upside.
