In Core Keeper, resources play a key role in progression. While most of them come from exploration, animals and plants are also reliable sources. Similarly, cattle can provide some essential materials. The catch is that you cannot just walk up and collect from them. You first need to tame them, and feeding is a crucial step in that process.
Additionally, there are several types of cattle in the game, and each one prefers a specific kind of food. Therefore, feeding them properly can be confusing at first, especially for beginners.
In this detailed article, we will explain the complete procedure for feeding cattle in Fireshine Games and bilibili’s survival title.

Core Keeper: How to feed cattle

As mentioned earlier, there are several types of cattle in Core Keeper, and you need to provide them with different types of feed. However, if the cattle are roaming in the wild, you first need to tame them and guide them to the base. Once they’re there, you can feed them in the following ways:
- Place the appropriate food inside a Feeding Tray and let the cattle eat from it.
- Drop the correct feed item near the animal so it can consume it on its own.
- Hold the food in your hand and interact directly with the cattle.
All of these methods work, but only if the cattle are already at your base. If they’re still outside, you will need to transport them back. Here is how you can do so:

- Craft a Livestock Workbench using your regular crafting table.
- Use the Livestock Workbench to craft either a Leash or a Cattle Transport Box.
- With a Leash, you can manually guide the cattle back to your base. Alternatively, you can capture the animal and transport it directly with a Cattle Transport Box.
There is also a slower method that works much like real life. You can hold the preferred feed in your hand and lure the cattle toward your base. It works, but it will test your patience.
What is the best feed to give to the cattle?
Below is the preferred feed for each cattle type:
- Bambuck: Plants
- Dodo: Critters except glowbugs
- Moolin: Plants
- Strolly Polly: Critters except glowbugs
- Kelpie: Kelp
