The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken strict action against its players after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. As per the reports, several senior players, including Babar Azam, Shahen Shah Afridi and captain Salman Ali Agha, have been fined PKR 5 Million (Rs. 16.28 Lakh) each after the team failed to qualify for the semi-finals.
Pakistan started the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with high expectations. However, the team failed to perform well in crucial matches and was eliminated in the Super 8 stage. Pakistan were able to win only one match in the Super 8 round and failed to qualify for the semi-finals.
Pakistan had an excellent opportunity to get a ticket for the semi-final as they had to defeat Sri Lanka in their last Super 8 match by more than 65+ runs. Pakistan batted first and played exceptional cricket, putting a massive 212 runs on the scoreboard. But they failed to stop Sri Lanka, and somehow, they made 207 runs in 20 overs.
Both Pakistan and New Zealand had three points, but New Zealand had a net run rate of +1.390, which was far better than Pakistan, as they had a negative NRR. Therefore, despite winning the match, Pakistan fell short with the net run rate and failed to get into the semi-final spot.
PCB Takes Strict Action After Poor World Cup Performance
The PCB has decided to impose heavy fines on players after Pakistan’s poor performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. As per the media reports, the board believes that players are rewarded for good performances, so they should also face consequences for poor performances.
As per the report, each centrally contracted player who was part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad has been fined PKR 5 Million (Rs. 16.8 Lakh).
Salman Ali Agha’s Captaincy in Danger
Pakistan T20 Team captain Salman Ali Agha failed to deliver a good performance both as skipper and player in the last few ICC tournaments. Salman Agha scored only 60 runs in six matches, which is quite a bad performance for the top-order batter, especially in the ICC tournament.
After Pakistan’s disappointing performance and exit from the T20 World Cup 2026, Salman Ali Agha would take some time before making any decision about his captaincy, but reports suggest that PCB is likely to announce a new captain.
