The Undertaker’s WrestleMania win streak was historic. Having won 21 consecutive WrestleMania matches was a record-breaking performance. The Phenom was once thought of as making it only 15 wins in the streak and being defeated by a current AEW star.
The former AEW TNT Champion in question here is Edge, aka Adam Copeland. It was brought to attention recently by senior WWE producer Michael Hayes. The veteran was talking with The Undertaker on the latter’s podcast. Hayes recalled a time in 2008 when Vince McMahon wanted Edge to break the streak.
Thanks for the submission!
Michael went to The Rated-R Superstar and told him that Vince wanted it that way. He praised Adam for being a great guy, but if he gets mad, then he’s really mad. It did happen when Copeland lashed out at Hayes, stating that McMahon could go to hell, but he wouldn’t break The Undertaker‘s streak, mostly out of respect for it.
“And I remember the time that he wanted Edge to break the streak. Yeah. And I went to Edge, and I said, ‘Hey, listen, just so you know, he’s thinking about you breaking the streak.’ And you know, Adam, he’s a great freaking guy. But if he gets mad, he gets mad; he’s got a temper. And he was like, he got mad. ‘No, no way. I’m not doing that. You can tell him to go to hell. I will not break the streak,'” Michael Hayes said. Michael Hayes discussed The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 25 match
Michael Hayes was the producer of what is called the greatest WrestleMania match of all time, The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 in 2009. Hayes recalled the time when Taker and Shawn were about to start the first rehearsal for their bout. It was when The Deadman was lacing his boots and asked Hayes a question.
The Deadman asked him what position they were on that card. Michael hesitantly answered that they were fifth and said there were more matches after them. Taker looked at HBK and said that this just went to a new level. The fact that this caliber of a match was not main-eventing the show was an issue for both Shawn and Taker. Thus, they went into the ring, delivered an action-packed 30-minute match, and made history.
